SALT LAKE CITY — Five more champions were crowned at the Utah High School Spring Individual golf championships Thursday at Rose Park Golf Course.
No team titles were decided as the tournament was put on by the Utah Section PGA rather than the Utah High School Activities Association as a way to honor some of the top prep golfers in the state with all-state honors and individual trophies.
Dixie sophomore Annabelle Millard had the best round of the day with a 4-under-par 70 to win the 4A girls event by five shots over Abigail Leitze of Desert Hills.
Rowland Hall freshman Arden Louchheim lapped the field in the 2A competition with a sparkling 1-under-par 73. She had four birdies on the day, including two of the final three holes to get under par and beat the second-place girl by a whopping 21 strokes.

Ellie DeMond of Morgan had the best round of her life in winning the 3A meet with a 1-over-par 75 to edge Ellie Hair of Richfield by two shots, while McKina Stacey of Rich High School was the 1A winner with a 95. DeMond said it was the first time in her life she had shot in the 70s.
Boys golf is played in the fall for most classifications, but is held in the spring in Class 1A where Manila junior Brody Schofield shot a 76 to beat Zachary Sherwood, Milford by four shots.
Schofield said he has to travel an hour from his home to Green River, Wyo. to the nearest golf course and otherwise “hits balls in a cow pasture quite a bit.” He had birdies at 1 and 16 in his 4-over-par round with a 38 on each nine.
Schofield was also excited to have a tournament to compete in.
“I was so pumped, yes I got something to compete again for,” he said. “Everybody wants competition and it gives you something to work for.”
With her 70, Millard overcame an early double bogey at No. 4 and reeled off three straight birdies at 7, 8 and 9 before adding birds at 16 and 17. Like most of the golfers, she was grateful to the PGA for organizing the tournament.
“I was really excited there was (a tournament) and it gave some closure for the seniors,” she said.
The 6A and 5A girls tournaments were played last week at Fox Hollow Golf Course in American Fork and were won by Lone Peak’s Berlin Long and Lehi’s Lila Galeai.
