PARK CITY — Tyson Shelley and Grace Summerhays were the big winners at the Utah PGA Junior Series season-ending Major Championship at the Promontory Dye Course.
Shelley, who will be a senior at Skyline High School, won the boys 17-18 division and fired a 7-under-par 65 to beat Jackson Holman and Parker Reese by four shots.
Summerhays, a 16-year-old from Scottsdale, Arizona, but who lives in Utah in the summer, shot a 6-under-par 66, which was three strokes better than Berlin Long in the girls 17-18 division.
By winning, Shelley received an invitation to play in next month’s Utah Open, while Summerhays qualified for the Utah Women’s Open, although she won’t be able to attend as she’s playing in the U.S. Women’s Amateur next week. Reese also earned a spot in the Utah Open by being runner-up to Shelley in the season-long points race. Cheyenne Hansen also received an exemption into next week’s Utan Women’s Open.
Other winners were Sean Lam in the boys 15-16 division, Bowen Mauss in boys 13-14, Ali Mulhall in girls 15-16 and Aadyn Long in girls 13-14.
