Salt Lake’s Kelsey Chugg and 16-year-old Grace Summerhays, who battled in the finals of the Utah Women’s Amateur last month, will both tee off early at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship Monday at the Woodmont Country Club North Course in Rockville, Maryland.

Chugg, a four-time State Amateur champion who won the U.S. MId-Amateur championship in 2017 and finished second a year later, tees off at 6:55 a.m. MT with Renate Grimstead of Norway and Katherine Smith of Minnesota.

Summerhays, who lives in Arizona but spends her summers in Utah and won the Utah Women’s Am at Soldier Hollow three weeks ago, tees off at 8:29 a.m. MT with Sofia Garcia of Paraguay and Amari Avery of California.

After two rounds of medal play Monday and Tuesday, the 132-golfer field will be cut to 64, and that group will compete in two matches Wednesday and then matches Thursday through Saturday until two golfers are left for Sunday’s final.
