SALT LAKE CITY — After a summer of wondering ‘will we play, won’t we play, will we play, won’t we play’ because of COVID-19, girls soccer players around the state will indeed get the chance to play.

The high school season officially kicks off on Tuesday, with 28 games scheduled that day around the state.

In anticipation of the season, American Fork (6A), Skyline (5A), Cedar Valley (4A), Morgan (3A) and Rowland Hall (2A) will begin the season ranked No. 1 in the Deseret News preseason coaches rankings.

American Fork, Skyline and Rowland Hall are all defending state champs in their respective classifications.

Last year’s 4A champion Ogden will begin the year ranked third, while in 3A last year’s champion Manti opens the season ranked No. 2.

Here’s complete look at the top five teams in all five classifications.
