SALT LAKE CITY — As expected, Beaver opened up a commanding lead after the opening day of the 2A state golf tournament on Wednesday at Talons Cove in Saratoga Springs.

Beaver fired an opening day 299 in its quest for a fourth straight 2A title, leading Rowland Hall by 39 strokes heading into Thursday’s final round.

Beaver’s Braden Roberts led the way in the chase for 2A medalist honors shooting a scintillating 66 opening round, finishing with seven birdies and one bogey.

Teammate Klayson Matheson shot an even-par 72 and sits in second place, followed by another Beaver golfer in third, as Hoyt Blomquist shot a 74.
