The 2021 high school girls lacrosse season gets underway this week for teams across the state. After last year’s canceled season — in what was supposed to be lacrosse’s first as a sanctioned UHSAA sport — the anticipation for the 2021 season is sky high.

To prepare fans for the upcoming season, the Deseret News has put together capsules for every girls lacrosse team in 4A. Every coach was invited to participate and submit information.

The region rankings are based on coaches’ preseason projections.

Here are the 4A teams and players to watch this upcoming season.

Coach comment

“We are hungry this season. That’s the best way I can describe it. It was such a loss for the players to miss out on a lacrosse season last year, and this school year has been anything but easy. Many on the team lost their basketball season, too. We have a lot of dedicated seniors who are ready to bring this team back together to see what we can accomplish. It will be a steep learning curve to get back to where we were two years ago, and everyone is ready for this season to get going.”

Coach comment

“Three short months ago nobody thought we would have a girls program. I have the opportunity as the strength and sonditioning coach to train the athletes for every sport throughout the week and we’ve really been pushing for the “multisport athlete” approach as a school. With a little bit of encouragement and enthusiasm, word started to spread and we’ve got a team! A huge shoutout to my assistant coaches Tamar Call, Marlayne Nye and Allie Issacson. It’s time to take flight.”

“Growth for girls lacrosse at Ridgeline is at an all-time high. We are excited to have a varsity and a JV team. Out of 26 girls there are only eight juniors and seniors. This year will be a great test for the team who are fully expecting to win Region 11.”

Coach comment

“Coming into the 2021 season there is a lot excitement surrounding The Lady Bears lacrosse program from the coaches, players, parents, and fans. As a coach I’ve seen many teams over the years, this team might be the most athletic team from top to bottom I have ever coached. With that said, this team is very young with only two seniors leading the way. This will be a very fun and exciting team to watch this season from a fan’s perspective; because I think you will see a team with your very own eyes, that will improve each and every game. How good will we be? Time will tell, but this group of student-athletes work hard each and every day and they play for one another, so enjoy the ride.”
