A handful of the top high school basketball players in the country in the Class of 2025 are still deciding what school they’ll play for on the collegiate level, and at least one of those players is still considering the BYU Cougars.

On Wednesday morning, On3 first reported that Nate Ament of Highland School in Warrenton, Virginia, released a list of 11 schools he’s still considering, and BYU made the cut.

Listed at 6-foot-9 and 215 pounds, Ament is a consensus top five player in the country in the Class of 2025 and the top player who has not yet committed to a school.

Ament’s full list is as follows, in alphabetical order:

  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • BYU
  • Duke
  • Georgetown
  • Kansas State
  • Kentucky
  • Louisville
  • Notre Dame
  • Tennessee
  • Texas

On3’s Jamie Shaw reported that Ament has taken official visits to Texas, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Louisville.

BYU, of course, has already landed the top prospect in the country for 2025, AJ Dybantsa.

There’s a long way to go, but adding Ament to the fold would give the Cougars immense talent at the forward positions next season to go with one of the best center prospects in the nation, Xavion Staton (another signee for 2025, Chamberlain Burgess, is planning on serving a church mission after he graduates from high school).

“I’ve heard from BYU some, and they’ve been to a practice,” On3 quoted Ament as saying. “I’ve actually talked with AJ since he committed.

“You know, having me and AJ on the same team, two high-level wings, would be enticing for us to both grow as freshmen, pursuing our dreams of the NBA, so that would put them a little more into play for me since AJ committed.”

Three other top 10 prospects in the Class of 2025 beside Ament are also uncommitted — Koa Peat out of Arizona, Caleb Wilson out of Georgia and Brayden Burries out of California.

BYU has offered scholarships to Wilson and Burries, though it’s not clear if either of them are still considering the Cougars at this juncture.
