New York state will now begin allowing people to get married over Zoom, leaving no excuses to give up on your wedding.

What’s the news:

  • New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo tweeted Saturday that New York will start allowing marriage licenses to be given over Zoom calls and video chats. The decision allows clerks to conduct marriage ceremonies over the apps, too.
  • He tweeted: “I am issuing an Executive Order allowing New Yorkers to obtain a marriage license remotely and allowing clerks to perform ceremonies via video conference.”
  • According to The Verge, Cuomo said at his press conference Saturday, “There is now no excuse when the question comes up for marriage. You can do it by Zoom. Yes or no.”
  • New York remains one of the states hit the hardest during the coronavirus pandemic.

Are wedding safe?

  • Couples across the country have started making adjustments for their weddings because of the coronavirus and the call for social distancing, as Erica Evans reported for the Deseret News.
  • Wedding venues have allowed couples to reschedule their weddings, too.
  • “We are just trying to work with everybody to make sure people are happy because this is so hard,” said Dawn Borchardt, manager at Memorial House in Utah. “It’s hard for us and it’s hard for people who have been waiting their whole lives to get married, and then suddenly this happens.”
