Amazon CEO and Forbes’ richest man on earth, Jeff Bezos, announced in a Thursday Instagram post that he would be making a $100 million donation to the nonprofit organization Feeding America in order to help Americans facing food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic, CNN reports.

The multi-billionaire also encouraged anyone with the means to make donations to the Chicago-based organization, which runs more than 200 food banks across the United States, the Hill reports.

Some people aren’t content with the CEO’s contribution, Vox reports, claiming that while $100 million sounds like a lot to most people, it only composes about .08% of Bezos’ $120 billion in wealth and assets.

Despite the criticism, Feeding America says it is “deeply grateful” for Bezos’ “generous” gift.

“This donation, the largest single gift in our history, will enable us to provide more food to millions of our neighbors facing hardship during this crisis. Countless lives will be changed because of his generosity,” Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America, told WTHR.

While the gift is indeed the biggest in Feeding America’s history, it likely won’t cover the full extent of their need, as a recent Feeding America report claims that in order to meet the demand, which is estimated to increase by 46% due to the coronavirus, they will need an extra $1.4 billion over the next six months.
