Do Apple Store closures predict the next COVID-19 outbreaks?

The Wall Street Journal followed the data for hundreds of stores and compared it to coronavirus statistics.

“Apple has consistently been one of the first retailers to close its doors in areas of the U.S. just as they see a surge in COVID-19 cases,” WSJ reported.

Apple has, in fact, closed stores throughout the country, specifically in states that have seen massive coronavirus surges. For example, Apple closed stores in Arizona, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina back in June just when cases began to rise in those areas, according to USA Today. Houston saw closures not too long after that.

Funny enough, CNN reported on how Apple Stores show how the country is reopening, too.

“The retail stores of America’s most valuable company have arguably become something of a barometer for how the pandemic is affecting different parts of the country — and the start and stop cycle of reopenings in various regions.”
