A fisherman in Massachusetts caught a rare blue lobster off the coast of Plymouth.

  • He is only 13 years old.

Adam Carpenter caught the lobster after getting his lobster license in the summer. He found one of the blue lobsters in his traps. He told WickedLocal.com about it right from the start.

  • “I’d seen YouTube videos of blue lobsters before but never thought I would catch one.”
  • “I was confused and excited. I couldn’t believe there was a blue lobster in the trap.”
  • His mom, Christie, said her son was “so excited” when he talked to her about it.

According to WickedLocal.com, blue lobsters are considered rare since they only arrive in nature at a rate of about 1 in 200 million. That’s according to data from the University of Maine Lobster Institute.

So where is it now? Carpenter is keeping it “secret location in the bay” before he decides what to do with it next.

  • “I might give it to the New England Aquarium,” he said. “They’ll give it a good home.”
