Terror struck a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Sunday after the driver of a red SUV sped through a holiday parade, killing at least five people and injuring more than 40 others, The Washington Post reports.

Who attacked the Wisconsin Christmas parade?

Investigators already have a suspect in mind, and the suspect may have been fleeing an earlier crime scene.

  • Per The Associated Press, law enforcement officials are ”examining whether the SUV’s driver may have been fleeing from a crime when he crashed into the paradegoers.”
  • Specifically, one law official said the person in custody over the attack is being asked about “an altercation involving a knife,” according to The Associated Press.

What happened at the Wisconsin Christmas parade?

On Sunday night, a joyous celebration of the holidays turned deadly when a red SUV broke through barricades and attacked the parade, which was full of children, according to reports.

  • Witnesses described horrifying scenes. One woman said she saw the SUV hit a dance team, which was made up of girls 9 to 15 years old.

Corey Montiho, a Waukesha School District board member, told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that his daughter was hit during the attack, and the scene became a horror show.

  • “There were pom-poms and shoes and spilled hot chocolate everywhere. I had to go from one crumpled body to the other to find my daughter,” he said. “My wife and two daughters were almost hit. Please pray for everybody. Please pray.”
