An island in Scotland is now up for auction with bids starting close to $112,000, CNN reports.

What’s going on?

An auction house recently listed Deer Island in the Scottish Highlands for sale at £80,000 (or about $111,700).

  • The island — which is uninhabited — has about 11 acres of land in total. One family has owned the island for about 500 years. Now, it’s being sold, according to CNN.
  • Per Metro, the island offers a total escape from the society.

Here’s the thing — you can’t build anything from the beginning.per CNN, the future owner of the island will have to seek permits and permissions to build something on the island.

Officials expect the island to sell for anywhere between £150,000 and £200,000 (which is about $209,000 — $279,00), CNN reports.

Flashback

This isn’t the first time a small island has been put up for sale. The Independent reports that Little Ragged Island in the Bahamas — which also goes by the name St. Andrew’s — can be bought. That island currently costs close to $19.5 million. But the potential future[potential?]owner has to go through a bidding process to win the island.
