Hawaii is apparently the best state in the United States, according to Americans.

What is the best state in the country?

YouGov recently released findings of a new poll that asked Americans to choose the best states in the country.

  • Americans were asked to pick the better of two states, as well as the District of Columbia, in head-to-head battles. The states were then ranked by how many matchups they won.
  • Hawaii topped the list, having been chosen as the better state in 69% of its matchups. Colorado ranked right behind with 65% of victories.
  • Virginia (64%), Nevada (61%) and North Carolina (61%) finished up the top five.

Utah is middle of the road

So Utah finished at No. 27 on the list with 48% of victories in head-to-head matchups. Utah ranked right ahead of New Mexico, South Carolina and Louisiana. But it had less victories than Maryland, Rhode Island, Minnesota and Connecticut.

Best states in the West

According to the YouGov poll, a number of Western states — specifically those that surround Utah — ranked rather high. Colorado was No. 2 on the list, with Nevada ranking in at No. 4. Arizona placed seventh on the list, too. Wyoming finished slightly ahead of Utah, finishing with a 53% vote. California even ranked within the top 15, finishing at No. 12.

Is this true?

Look, there are always going to be different polls with different ranking for states. For example, in May 2019, U.S. News & World Report ranked Washington state as the best state in the country, according to USA Today.
