A Louisiana man has gone missing and has been presumed dead after an alligator attacked him earlier this week, according to The New York Times.
A woman said her husband, who is 71, was attacked by an alligator while walking in flood waters in Sidell, Louisiana, which is outside New Orleans, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
- The woman said she heard the commotion and splashing from inside her home. She saw a huge alligator attacking her husband.
- The alligator had him in the “death roll,” Capt. Lance Vitter of the sheriff’s office told The New York Times.
The man lost one of his arms from the attack. She ran inside to gather supplies. When she realized his injuries were worse than he thought, she jumped in a boat to find help.
- When she got home, her husband was gone.
The sheriff’s office used some high water vehicles and flatboats to find the man. But the rescue efforts were unsuccessful, according to CNN.
The attack is still under investigation, per ABC-6. But authorities said residents should be careful about walking in flooded areas because of potential wildlife, including alligators and other animals.
