Petito, a 22-year-old from Long Island, has gone missing in recent days. She was first reported missing on Sept. 11. She did not return home from a road trip with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie. The two spent weeks in Utah, visiting Mystic Hot Springs and Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands and Arches national parks, among other locations.
Laundrie did return home, though. A search is underway for Petito.
Gabby’s father, Joe Petito, said he didn’t notice anything wrong with Laundrie before the trip, according to Chicago-based channel News Nation.
- “I haven’t seen red flags.”
- “But that’s not something you’re going to tell your dad,” he said, according to Insider. “Your dad’s a fixer, you know. No dad wants to see their daughter cry.
- “So, no. If I’d have seen a red flag, I’d be all up in arms about it, but to be honest I haven’t,” he added.
Laundrie’s attorney, Steve Bertolino, released a statement from Laundrie about the missing Petito, per ABC 7 New York. He said he hopes Petito is reunited with her family soon. Laundrie and his family, the attorney said, will remain in the background.
- “On behalf of the Laundrie family, it is our hope that the search for Miss Petito is successful and that Miss Petito is re-united with her family,” the statement read. “On the advice of counsel, the Laundrie family is remaining in the background at this juncture and will have no further comment.”
