SALT LAKE CITY — A resolution designating two official state hashtags was passed unanimously by the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee on Tuesday.
Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross, said SCR18 is inspired by Texas, which recently passed a resolution designating a state hashtag.
Unlike Texas, Utah would have two hashtags — #Utah as the official state hashtag, and #VisitUtah as the official state tourism hashtag.
Originally, the bill designated #SkiUtah as the state tourism hashtag, but Weiler amended it at the request of the tourism community.
“I can see the wisdom to that. You can’t ski on the red rock, and there’s more to Utah than just skiing,” Weiler said. “I think just the fact I had to change that, it speaks to why there is wisdom designating an official hashtag so that we can all be on the same page.”
The bill will now move to the full Senate.
