SOUTH SALT LAKE — A motorcyclist died Saturday evening after a crash in South Salt Lake, police said.

About 6:30 p.m., a woman was crossing the street at a crosswalk at 3053 S. State Street. A minivan had slowed and stopped for her, said South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller. The motorcyclist driving behind the van — probably not seeing the van stopping — rear-ended the van and was thrown from his motorcycle, Keller said.

The man, 48, and believed to be from St. George, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead later that evening, according to Keller.

The man’s name was not immediately released while family members were being notified.

There were no signs of impairment in the crash, Keller said.

No one else was injured.
