PARK CITY — A phone store employee who was helping a woman transfer data onto her new phone was arrested after police say he sent explicit pictures from the customer’s phone to his own phone.
Esteban DeJesus Anica, 24, of Kamas, was booked into the Summit County Jail on Friday for investigation of computer crimes.
On Oct. 24, a woman went to a Verizon Wireless store in Park City to upgrade her phone. Anica, an employee of the store, helped the woman transfer the data from her old phone to her new phone, according to police affidavit.
While that was being done, police say the woman left the store to pick up a child from school. She returned to the store after to pick up her cellphone.
Later that night, the woman was using her laptop computer, which syncs text messages from her phone, and said she noticed several texts were sent from her phone to an unknown number.
“Those messages contained several nude photos of the complainant from the complainant’s photo roll,” the affidavit states.
Investigators said they determined that the number was Anica’s phone.
In 2018, Anica was convicted of drug possession and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, and was sentenced to probation, according to court records. In 2015 he was convicted on amended charges of attempted drug possession and also sentenced to probation.
