SOUTH JORDAN — One of three men shot early Thanksgiving morning has died from his injuries, police said Thursday.

He was identified by South Jordan police as 23-year-old Efrain Castro.

Castro and two other men were shot and injured at a large house party near South Jordan Parkway and the Mountain View Corridor about 2:30 a.m. the morning of Nov. 28.

Castro was shot between eight and 12 times, Lt. Matt Pennington said. The other two victims were hit by a single bullet that police said was likely “collateral damage.”

All three men had to undergo surgery. Castro had been at the hospital in critical condition from the time of the shooting until his death Wednesday evening, Pennington said.

The main suspect in the shooting, 26-year-old Joshua Perez-Garcia of Kearns, was found dead in a field near a residential construction site in the area of 11000 South and 6200 West on the morning of Dec. 2. Police said he had suffered gunshot wounds.

Police are calling Perez-Garcia’s death “suspicious” but are not looking for any other suspects, Pennington said. His death remains under investigation.
