RICHFIELD — Four high school students were flown by helicopters to local hospitals following a rollover crash down a rocky ravine in central Utah on Tuesday.
Just after noon, five Richfield High School students on lunch break were in a Jeep Cherokee on CC Road west of Richfield. The Utah Highway Patrol describes CC Road as “a dirt road frequented by teenagers at lunch break.”
The inexperienced driver lost control of the SUV while traveling at a high rate of speed and crashed down a deep ravine, the UHP stated.
Five teenagers - all 15 and 16 years old - in the vehicle were injured. Four were flown by medical helicopters to hospitals in the Salt Lake valley in critical conditions. The fifth was treated in Richfield for non-life threatening injuries, according to the UHP. Only two of the teens were wearing seat belts.
Additional details will be posted as they become available.
