SALT LAKE CITY — Three documented gang members face criminal charges after prosecutors say they attacked another group in a fast food parking lot and then stole one of the victim’s shoes.
It was the second time two of those gang members have been charged with assaulting someone and stealing their shoes.
On Aug. 23, a 17-year-old boy said he was in a car in a parking lot at McDonald’s, 5710 W. 7800 South, with three friends, when a man approached his car and asked if he “banged,” according to charging documents.
A second man then opened the driver’s side door and began punching the teen in the face while a third used the butt end of a gun to hit his windshield while ordering the occupants out of the car “before things got worse,” the charges state. One of the men then used a rock to smash the back window of the car, according to the charges.
Two of the suspects then assaulted a second 17-year-old boy in the car and took his Air Jordan 12 shoes, according to charging documents.
A 17-year-old girl in the car said one of the men attempted to pull her out of vehicle, and then shut the door on her leg, the charges state. After being assaulted, the teenage driver was able to put his vehicle in gear and drive off.
Prosecutors say in court documents that all three defendants are documented gang members.
Heavvehn Styles, 19, of West Jordan; Carson Michael Lee O’Dell, 19, of Tooele; and Gustavo Angel Molina, 19, of West Jordan, are each charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.
Styles is also charged with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor. O’Dell faces an additional charged of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, and aggravated assault, a class B misdemeanor. Molina is charged with another count of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.
Styles and O’Dell were already named as co-defendants in a separate case filed in 3rd District Court on Nov. 25. The two, along with a third man, were charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
In that case, the trio approached a man standing in a parking lot and demanded that he empty his pockets and give them his shoes, according to charging documents. When the man refused, Styles and O’Dell flashed gang signs and made gang statements before repeatedly striking him with a baseball bat and brass knuckles, the charges state.
One of the men then “pulled out a gun, pointed it at him and cocked the gun,” according to charging documents. The men allegedly took the victim’s money and shoes.
