OGDEN — A man was killed Friday night when four officers shot him as he approached them with a knife, Ogden police said.

The man was advancing on the officers, ignoring repeated orders to drop the knife, a department news release said.

Officers were called to the 3100 block of Gramercy Avenue about 8:55 p.m. by a person who said they were having a yard party when a man, holding a knife, approached several people at the party, police said.

The man was also looking into cars and had entered a carport, still holding the knife, the caller told dispatchers.

When police arrived on the scene and approached the man, he advanced toward them with the knife, ignoring repeated orders to stop and drop the knife, according to the department.

All four officers who responded fired their weapons and the man “went down,” the department said. He was declared dead at the scene.

The name of the man has not been released.

The Weber County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the incident. The officers are being placed on standard administrative leave until the department’s internal investigation is complete.

The officers were wearing body cameras and the footage will be reviewed, the police department said.
