SALT LAKE CITY — A California man was charged Monday with traveling to Utah to meet up with a 16-year-old girl and having sex with her.
Sean Michael Peery, 27, of Anderson, California, was charged in 3rd District Court with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony; two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony; and enticing a minor, a class A misdemeanor.
In May, Draper police responded to a hotel where a woman was concerned her daughter was with a 27-year-old man, according to charging documents. Officers located Peery and learned that he had used “the internet and text messaging” to entice the girl, charges state.
Peery tried convincing the girl, who he knew was 16, to travel to California, the charges state. When she could not make those arrangements, he traveled to Utah in May explicitly to have sex with her, according to charging documents.
Investigators examined Peery’s phone and laptop and multiple explicit images of the girl and communication between the two that was “sexual and graphic,” the charges state.
