PERRY, BOX ELDER COUNTY — Sheriff’s investigators say a 53-year-old man was likely killed in an ATV accident.

Donald Glen Rumsey, 53, of Weber County, left his house to go camping on Saturday. By Tuesday night, he was reported missing to the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office after not showing up for work for two days, according to a prepared statement from the department.

Rumsey had not told anyone where he was going. But his family, knowing he spent time in Perry Canyon, checked that area and found his ATV trailer and truck, according to the sheriff’s office.

Box Elder County search and rescue crews arrived at the canyon early Wednesday. Their search was aided by a hiker who spotted an overturned ATV in a ravine about a quarter-mile from where the truck was located, the sheriff’s office stated.

“Deputies found him near the ATV a short time later, about 7:30 a.m., deceased. Probable cause of death is due to injuries from the ATV accident, however he was transported to the Utah state medical examiner for determination of exact cause of death,” according to the sheriff’s office.
