VEYO, Washington County — A 30-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision on state Route 18 in Washington County Tuesday afternoon.
Around 1:38 p.m. witnesses told investigators that a four-door car traveling northbound about milepost 16 in the Dammeron Valley, south of Veyo, drifted across the center line and into the path of a southbound semitrailer hauling some kind of gravel.
“It appears from evidence on the scene ... that the passenger car traveling northbound drifted left of center, clipped the front of the semi truck, which spun it off the right shoulder of the northbound lane,” said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Joe Pastor. “The semi truck had excessive skid marks on the road, approximately 70 yards or so. It finally came to a stop on the northbound side of the road, facing south, causing the trailer to tip.”

The side-dump trailer jack-knifed and overturned blocking the northbound lane of travel. Pastor said rescuers attempted to revive the female driver of the car, but she died at the scene as a result of her injuries. She was the only occupant of the car.
The semitrailer was driven by a man in his late 40s, Pastor said, and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital in fair condition.
The road was closed for several hours as troopers investigated the accident. The woman’s name was not released as police attempted to notify her family.
