PROVO — Two cats have been severely injured by being shot with blow darts in Utah County in two weeks.

Now, authorities are imploring anyone with information on the person or people responsible to contact them.

Both cats were found in the Utah Lake State Park area. The first was discovered on Sept. 23. The cat had a blow dart shot through its eye, resulting in the loss of the cat’s left eye.

The second cat was found Wednesday. Provo Police Sgt. Nisha King a blow dart had pierced the cat’s lung and resulted in the amputation of a front leg. Despite the injuries, both cats were expected to survive, she said.

Neither cat had a tag or a microchip, so police do not know if they were strays or have owners.

Police are now looking for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area or spotted anyone who was walking around the state park with a blow dart gun to contact Animal Control officer Michelle Proctor at mproctor@provo.org.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office was also expected to become involved in the investigation she said.
