LOGAN — A Logan man awaiting sentencing after a recent conviction for sexually assaulting a woman is accused of committing a similar offense just days before pleading guilty, according to police.

Kaleb Matthew Barclay, 23, was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Cache County Jail for investigation of three counts of forcible sexual abuse.

On Sept. 21, Barclay reached a plea deal in 1st District Court on a prior assault case, pleading guilty to attempted forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. He was accused of assaulting a female student at Utah State University that he met on the Mutual app. Barclay was scheduled to return to court to be sentenced in that case on Nov. 9.

But according to a new police affidavit, on Sept. 17 — four days before pleading guilty — Barclay went on a date with a woman he friended on Facebook.

The woman agreed to go stargazing with Barclay.

“On the drive to Benson Marina Kaleb asked her, ‘You’ve consented to come out here with me right?’” the affidavit states.

Soon after arriving, Barclay forcibly kissed the woman and unbuttoned her shirt, according to the affidavit. He then groped and sexually abused the woman, the affidavit states.

When Barclay dropped the woman off at her apartment, “he told her not to talk about it with her roommates because they would merely tell her that it was an assault and that he would get into trouble, that he did not need any more trouble in his life, that he was already up on charges for another girl where he had inappropriately touched her,” according to the affidavit.

On Oct. 6, the woman made a phone call to Barclay in which Cache County sheriff’s investigators were also listening and recording, the affidavit states. During the call, Barclay apologized for what he did and “told her that he had a problem with pornography and that he did not know how to treat women, that he would lose control and do what he did,” the affidavit states.

Police noted in the affidavit that the “basic facts of the previous assault are very similar to the accusation for the assault that took place Sept. 17.”
