SALT LAKE CITY — Police were searching Sunday for a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the University of Utah campus Saturday.
Between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., a woman in her late 20s who is not a student at the university said she met up with the man, whom she had originally met online. The man, however, was not the same person from his profile picture, but he convinced her to get into his car, said U. Department of Public Safety Lt. Jason Hinojosa.
The man then sexually assaulted the woman in his car in the 400 block of South Mario Capecchi Drive, according to an alert that went out to the university community.
“There was a weapon present in the vehicle but it was not used in the commission of the act,” according to the alert.
The man’s car was described only as dark in color and a “late model.” Police have few security cameras in the area, Hinojosa said.
The man was described as slim, with a shaved head and wearing a military uniform.
Anyone with information regarding the assault is asked to contact university police at 801-585-2677.
