MIDWAY — A man was arrested late Saturday and accused of vehicular homicide after allegedly striking a woman with his vehicle in Midway.

About 10:35 p.m., dispatchers received a call from the man telling them he had hit and seriously injured a pedestrian on Main Street, the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

First responders arrived and began lifesaving efforts as the woman was taken to a hospital, where she died. Her name was not immediately released. Sheriff’s officials say she was from Midway.

“We offer sincere condolences to the family and friends of those mourning and impacted by this devastating incident,” officials said.

Colby Gertsch, 39, also of Midway, was booked into the Wasatch County Jail for investigation of automobile homicide, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a motor vehicle negligently causing death, according to the statement.

The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the death.
