DRAPER — Corner Canyon High School will remain on online instruction until at least Oct. 16 “as a result of the of the number of positive COVID-19 cases associated with the school, coupled with the increase in the community transmission rates,” according to emails and phone calls to parents on Friday.
The Draper high school has observed digital learning for the past two weeks after reporting a growing number of students and staff with confirmed cases of coronavirus.
“Also taken into consideration in this decision is the number of students who are on quarantine. Every positive case among students has potential to lead to an exponential number of students on quarantine. At that point, teachers are put in the difficult position of having to teach in-person students while also supporting the students on quarantine who cannot attend class for two weeks,” the note to parents states.
The decision to remain all online at the school “is in line with a recommendation from the Salt Lake County Health Department. It also follows the Canyons Board of Education’s COVID-19-response guidelines,” the note states.
The school district urges the school community to comply with health and safety precautions. “Please observe physical distancing guidelines and wear face coverings. Only by working together can we maintain the level of health and wellness that would be required to return to campus.”

Bingham High School
Jordan School District’s Bingham High School was closed Friday for deep cleaning and disinfection after the Salt Lake County Health Department identified 15 active cases of COVID-19 within the South Jordan high school.
Cleaning activities will continue through Saturday with classes scheduled to resume on Monday.
“Because Friday is a virtual learning day, we encourage meetings and activities to be online as much as possible. Homecoming activities and other scheduled events will proceed as scheduled. There will be no access to the building on Saturday,” an email to the school community states.
