HEBER CITY — A Heber City man recently sentenced to the Utah State Prison for child pornography possession, and who has been arrested multiple times over the past year, has been charged again.
Grant Frederick Johnson, who will turn 21 on Wednesday, was charged Tuesday in Wasatch County’s 4th District Court with 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
Johnson was first charged in May 2019 with 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after his lost iPod was discovered to have child pornography on it, charging documents state.
Then in September 2019 he was charged with unlawful sexual relations with a minor. The victim in that case was the same boy he had had unlawful sexual contact with in January 2019, according to court records. In February, Johnson was sentenced to probation for that case after being convicted of dealing in harmful materials to a minor, court records state.
On Sept. 30, Johnson was sentenced to 1 to 15 years in the Utah State Prison for the May 2019 charges, court records state, in which he was convicted of two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Johnson was also convicted of unlawful sexual activity with a minor on Sept. 8 for an incident that happened in August 2018, according to court records. He is scheduled to be sentenced in that case on Oct. 27.
Because of his convictions, Johnson is restricted from being around young children. According to a police affidavit related to his latest charges, in August Johnson stayed the night at a house with young children, a violation of his probation. When he was arrested for probation violation, police checked his phone and found “suspicious photos,” the affidavit states.
Detectives obtained a warrant to conduct a full search of Johnson’s phone.
“We located over 100 pictures of obvious prepubescent male child pornography,” the affidavit states. “Also found on the cellphone were multiple pictures of Grant, one, in particular, was with a recent victim he is still currently going to court on.”
