BOUNTIFUL — State wildlife officers euthanized an injured deer outside of South Davis Junior High on Tuesday.

Mark Hadley, northern region outreach manager for the state Division of Wildlife Resources, said the agency received a call from the school and officers discovered that it had a broken leg, possibly struck by a car.

“Because of that injury, we unfortunately, which is the last thing we want to do, but we ended up euthanizing the deer. When they get injured like that, there’s really nothing else you can really do for them so we went ahead and we euthanized the animal.”

Teachers were told to keep students inside their classrooms and all students were inside the school while wildlife officers tended to the animal.

Hadley said the deer was given to an individual who had requested to receive donated game meat from the division.
