Jeter, an American pit bull terrier, tries to get at treats inside a pumpkin at Salt Lake County Animal Services in Millcreek on Friday, where staff gave the pets donated pumpkins and other holiday treats as part of a Halloween enrichment activity. According to the organization, pumpkins are a great way to engage an animal’s brain: they smell different, they roll and they’re edible, although pets shouldn’t be allowed to eat an entire pumpkin. Salt Lake County Animal Services is also reminding pet owners Halloween can be scary for pets and recommending they ensure tags and microchips are current in case animals escape when trick-or-treaters come to the door.
