MURRAY — A West Jordan woman was charged Monday with shooting a woman she was fighting with over a purse after a man walked out of a nearby store and handed her a gun.
Siesia Otulangi Makaafi, 35, of West Jordan, is charged in 3rd District Court with discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, a first-degree felony.
On Oct. 24, police responded to a shooting outside Elite Smoke and Vape, 4449 S. Commerce Drive in Murray. Two women were in the parking lot fighting over a purse when Andrew Lucero, 35, came out of the smoke shop, walked over to Makaafi and handed her a gun, according to charging documents.
Makaafi then shot the other woman in the chest, the charges state.
Police interviewed a man who was also in the smoke shop who said that Lucero “had asked for the gun they keep underneath the counter,” the charges state.
Two men were then seen by witnesses dumping the woman who was shot on the grass near the shop’s parking lot and walking away.
The victim “suffered a gunshot wound to her thorax” and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition where “surgery was performed to remove a foreign object from her liver,” according to charging documents.
Lucero, of Murray, was charged last week with discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, a first-degree felony, and illegally carrying a concealed firearm, a class A misdemeanor.
