OREM — A trainer at an Orem gym has been arrested for allegedly recording women in the restroom with his cellphone without their knowledge.

Ashley Reed Dodds, 20, of Orem, was arrested Wednesday for investigation of 11 counts of voyeurism by electronic equipment.

The investigation began when a woman went to her gym and stopped in the bathroom prior to her workout, according to a police affidavit.

“While going to the bathroom, she saw a cellphone hidden under the bathroom sink,” the affidavit states. “She took the phone and saw it was recording a video.”

The woman found a video of herself as well as another woman who had earlier changed in the bathroom.

“She said at the start of the video, it shows the trainer setting the camera up and into place. She said the trainer’s name is ‘Ash,’” according to the affidavit.

Police responded to the gym and questioned Dodds.

“I asked what was going on. He admitted he had messed up,” the affidavit states.

Dodds later told investigators there was a woman at the gym whom he liked.

“He said he did not know how to approach her or talk with her. Today he decided to place his cellphone under the sink and record when she came in to change,” according to the affidavit.

When police searched his phone, however, they found “multiple prior videos of Ashley recording females in the bathroom” on Jan. 23, Feb. 5, Feb. 10, Feb. 17 and Feb. 18, the affidavit states.

The affidavit does not say what gym Dodds was a trainer at.
