SALT LAKE CITY — A man with a couple of outstanding warrants made it easy for police to find him Sunday after he ran a red light and crashed into an officer’s car, police say.

The incident happened about 11:30 p.m. An officer was driving south on 900 West in a marked Salt Lake police patrol car when Adrian Daniel Lucero, 19, of Tooele, ran a red light at 600 North and hit the officer, according to a police booking affidavit.

After the crash, Lucero got out of his car and ran, the affidavit states. The officer, who was not injured, got out of his car and chased after him. Police say Lucero ran behind a house near 550 North and 900 West, which is where the officer caught up with him and tackled him.

Officers found drugs inside the pockets of Lucero’s jacket and methamphetamine, cocaine and a scale inside the vehicle he was driving, according to the affidavit.

Lucero was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of three counts of drug distribution, failing to remain at an injury accident, failing to stop at the command of an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and a red light violation.

Lucero faces charges from Jan. 29 in another case, including drug possession, DUI and possessing another man’s passport and Social Security card, according to court documents. An arrest warrant in that case was issued Feb. 19.

Another warrant was issued for Lucero on Friday for failing to show up to court on charges of burglary and theft in another case, according to court records.

In July, he was convicted of theft by receiving stolen property and placed on probation.
