ROY — By the time firefighters arrived at a house fire in Roy on Sunday, they say the structure was already engulfed in flames.
“The fire conditions upon arrival were not survivable and took considerable time to extinguish the flames,” the Roy Fire Department said in a prepared statement.
Jamie Allen, 60, was found deceased inside in a bedroom near the back the house.
“May God bless the Allen family at this time. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you,” the department said in a statement.
The fire was reported about 5.a.m. at 2835 W. 4975 South. After the fire was extinguished, crews spent several hours shoring up the house so it wouldn’t collapse before they could go in and search for the homeowner, according Roy Fire Capt. Matthew Heslop.
A cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
Damage is estimated at $200,000 and the home is considered a “total loss,” officials said.
