MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE, Weber County — A barn was destroyed by fire Saturday morning, taking some livestock with it, after officials say an animal knocked over a heat lamp.
At about 8 a.m. Weber Fire District, Ogden City Fire, North View Fire and Weber Sheriff’s Office all responded to the fire, which occurred at 523 N. 2800 West in Marriott-Slaterville.
“On the first crew’s arrival, the barn was already fully involved,” a Weber Fire District said in a Facebook post. “The primary challenge they faced was access as the barn was behind the house.”
Damages from the fire are estimated at $40,000, according to a news release from the fire district. Although crews were able to get the fire under control after about 30 minutes, the structure was deemed a total loss. A nearby Ford truck was also destroyed.
No injuries were reported, although the homeowner told fire officials that some livestock, including piglets and chicks, were lost in the blaze.
Weber Fire District is reminding anyone using a space heater not to place it near flammable objects, and to always use a heater with a safety switch that, if knocked over, will power off.
