WEST VALLEY CITY — A woman was found deceased in a closed public swimming pool on Tuesday.

Employees at the Centennial Swimming Pool, 5355 W. 3100 South, next to the Family Fitness Center in West Valley City, arrived at work about 8 a.m. to conduct regular maintenance when they found the body of woman floating in the water, according to West Valley police.

The woman was identified as Karina Aguilar, 25. West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said Aguilar lived near the pool and her family saw her last night, but an exact time was not immediately known.

Police say the gates to the outdoor pool were locked and there were no signs of forced entry. Vainuku said detectives believe Aguilar likely scaled the fence for an unknown reason.

There were no signs of foul play and no obvious signs of additional injuries on Aguilar, she said. Vainuku said Aguilar was clothed but not in swimming attire.

An autopsy will be conducted to confirm Aguilar’s cause of death as well as check for other indicators such as toxicology levels. Detectives were searching nearby businesses Tuesday for surveillance video that may have recorded Aguilar.
