SALT LAKE CITY — Those experiencing homelessness may rest a bit easier thanks to a donation of 100 mattresses to the Road Home.

The donation of newly developed mattresses specifically manufactured in response to the global pandemic was made Wednesday by Purple, creator of the Purple mattress, in cooperation with Relief Bed International, a nonprofit organization that provides beds to disaster victims and homeless shelters around the world.

According to Purple the mattresses were specifically manufactured for use on the front-lines of the war to defeat COVID-19, as care facilities face shortages in equipment nationwide.

“This week, Salt Lake County is reporting only three active cases of COVID-19 among people experiencing homelessness, and we are honored to do our part in helping to stop the spread as, prior to COVID-19, we opened our newer, larger facility that is better suited to managing and tracking the virus,” Michelle Flynn, executive director of the Road Home, said in a statement.
