SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s cases of the novel coronavirus rose by 332 on Sunday, health officials said.

Nearly 5,000 more people were tested since Saturday’s report, of which there was a 6.7% positive rate, slightly lower than the previous few days.

But current hospitalizations continued rising, with 16 more people requiring hospital care. Now, 137 people with COVID-19 are in Utah’s hospitals. On Saturday, that number was 132.

The new coronavirus cases bring Utah’s total since the pandemic began to 14,313 out of 267,713 tested, a 5.3% positive rate. About 57% of them are considered recovered. Those who have tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies through serology testing are not included by the Utah Department of Health in the state’s tally, and data about those test results has not yet been released to the public.

For the second day in a row, no new deaths were reported Sunday.

Of the 139 who have died in Utah with COVID-19, 94.2% were at “high-risk,” meaning they were 65 years or older and/or had a preexisting condition, according to the latest data from the Utah Department of Health. Those with diabetes, cardiovascular, chronic liver, chronic pulmonary or neurological conditions are considered part of at-risk groups, as well as current or former smokers.
