FAYETTE, Sanpete County — Authorities have identified the Springville man who drowned at Yuba Lake on Saturday morning.

Luis Leon, 22, was riding a WaveRunner with a friend when they took a sharp turn and flew off the watercraft, the Juab County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Leon never resurfaced after the crash. He and the passenger were not wearing life vests, authorities said. The passenger was able to make it back to shore.

A search and rescue and dive team searched for Leon’s body throughout Saturday afternoon using sonar equipment before they found him by about 5 p.m.
