LAYTON — A Layton man was arrested Tuesday after police say he stabbed his brother in a disagreement over how a child was being treated in their home.

Preston Robert Johnson, 27, was booked into the Davis County Jail Tuesday for investigation of aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child, jail records show. He had not been formally charged as of Tuesday.

Officer arrived at the Layton house where both brothers live about 9 p.m. Monday to find the 29-year-old victim had been stabbed in the neck, said Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman.

The man was flown to University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City in critical condition, but had improved to serious but stable condition Tuesday.

Lyman said police had passed the case onto the Davis County Attorney’s Office with a recommendation for felony charges for Johnson.
