TOOELE — Drinking water in Tooele was deemed safe Sunday after a break-in to the storage tank for a portion of the city was discovered the previous day.

Samples from the water system came back clear and residents can safely drink the water, city officials said in a statement late Sunday morning. Ongoing monitoring of the water will continue for the next 10 days.

Officials on Saturday had cautioned residents who live in Tooele south of Vine Street and east of Main Street to not use tap water for drinking, making ice, brushing their teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until the city’s water was deemed safe.

The rest of the city’s water was unaffected.
