BIG WATER, Kane County — Search crews located the body of a 30-year-old Arizona man who is presumed to have drowned in Lake Powell Sunday afternoon.

The body of Dustin Olague from Flagstaff, Arizona, was located in the Warm Creek area of Lake Powell on Wednesday following several days of searching.

Olague was reported missing at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday after he jumped from a private vessel to go for a swim without a life jacket. Conditions were semi-windy at the time and witnesses report last seeing Olague about 100 meters from the vessel when he disappeared underwater without resurfacing.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, National Park Service rangers and Classic Air Medical conducted “a hasty search” until dusk Sunday, but no recovery was made at which point the victim was presumed dead.

The National Park Service assisted by the Glen Canyon National Recreation conducted a grid search with sonar equipment and its submerged Remote Operated Vessel dive boat during recovery efforts.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office expressed its condolences to Olague’s family and friends and cautioned boaters to always wear life jackets.
