Jack and Mary Lou Raymond wave to family as they celebrate their 95th birthdays and their 74th wedding anniversary with a drive-by parade in Sandy on Sunday. The parade was led by five police cars and followed by a fire engine as about 25 cars filled with family members and other loved ones passed by and cheered for the couple. The pandemic has been difficult for the Raymonds, as they’ve especially missed getting to hug their grandkids. Jack Raymond, a talented bowler who would visit the lanes three or four times a week, is also missing his hobby, said their daughter, Cindy Raymond-Bailey. But the parade allowed them to finally mark their anniversary, which happened on June 2, and their summer birthdays, which are one month apart in July and August. “We decided to throw them all together since we couldn’t do them all due to COVID,” Raymond-Bailey said. The couple “enjoyed it a lot,” and a few hours after the celebration, Mary Lou Raymond was still wearing her “95 and fabulous” sash.
