SALT LAKE CITY — Police say they arrested an intoxicated man Monday after he got in an accident, fled, and then got into another accident.
Matthew William Ashby, 52, was arrested for investigation of DUI involving injury, marijuana possession, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and improper backing.
The first accident happened at 600 East and 2100 South, according to a police booking affidavit. One person was injured in the accident but the extent of that person’s injuries was not immediately available.
Ashby continued driving after the first accident, and was stopped at the traffic signal at 700 E. 2100 South, when he put his vehicle in reverse and hit the car behind him for his second accident, the affidavit states.
The first responding medical crews to the scene noted that Ashby had “sluggish responses and appeared impaired,” according to the affidavit.
Inside his car, investigators found “spice, empty bottles of mouthwash, and multiple prescription medications,” the affidavit says.
