Josue Mendoza and Flor Mendoza leap in to cool off in a pool in front of their home in Salt Lake City on Thursday as temperatures along the Wasatch Front approach the 100-degree mark. With high temperatures expected in the valley through next week, Salt Lake County is offering two cooling centers — the Salt Palace Convention Center downtown and Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy — for people who need a reprieve from the heat. Face masks and social distancing will be required. The county encourages residents to look out for each other and check on neighbors, particularly those who are older or have chronic conditions, during periods of extreme heat.
