SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a “potential serial rapist.”

Since 2016, at least three women have been sexually assaulted by a man who picked them up and gave them rides, said South Salt Lake police spokeswoman Danielle Croyle.

The only description police have of the man is a Hispanic male in his 30s, she said. But other evidence has been collected that possibly links the three assaults to the same person, and detectives fear there could be additional victims, Croyle said.

The man typically offers his victim a ride, then drives behind a building and physically and sexually assaults her, according to a statement from South Salt Lake police released Tuesday.

“He verbally threatens to harm them as he throws them out of the car and drives away from the area,” police stated.

One woman was assaulted in 2016 near 900 West and 3300 South after accepting a ride from a man in a red SUV. The second was in 2017 near 1300 S. Main by a man in a blue minivan. The third assault occurred near 2200 S. West Temple by a man in a blue passenger vehicle.

Croyle said one problem detectives are having is they have lost contact with the victims.

Police are asking anyone who may know the victims or know of additional victims to call 801-412-3645 or email the detective working the case at smullins@sslc.com.
